Years ago, Queen of Pop Whitney Houston sang the lyrics, "I believe the children are our future" and many would still say this is true. Thankfully, there are kids in the world who don't want to wait until they grow up to make a positive impact in the community. One group of kids are from a place called RandomKid.org where they are always finding new fresh ways to act locally and think globally. In fact, these kids are SO good at what they do that they've come up with some big plans, and now they need some help to make these dreams a reality. The idea for RandomKid began when Talia Leman (who was then 10 years old - and their current CEO) decided she wanted to raise one million dollars to help victims of Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf region of the US. With the help of children in other schools, they raised $4 million dollars in 4 months! This inspired them to keep the momentum going and up until today they've raised more money for other causes with children across the entire 50 states in the US and in many other countries as well. Everyone is welcome to be a part of their group. Talia and the gang at RandomKid have a motto they stand by as the "Power of ANY One" and encourage schools, youth groups, instructors or anyone else who would be interested in participating to contact them. This growing number of interested classrooms and children wanting to start meaningful service projects serves as a clear message - that the services of RandomKid are greatly needed. Teachers and youth leaders just do not have the time required to fully engage their students, allowing them to put their education into action like RandomKid can. Presently, there are 110 schools (which equals 33,000 students) ready and waiting to get involved with a project through RandomKid. The task at hand is to find new funding because RandomKid has maxed out their current capacity. Talia (who is presently 13 years old) is now looking for venture capital. She has a prospectus that she's happy to share with serious investors. This is a kid who has a track record for bringing in a great return on investment. A few years ago, The Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes was awarded to Talia where they gave her a gift of $2000. Being the brilliant young business teen she is, she decided to invest her winnings into a new idea - to sell key chains to raise funds to build homes in the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina. This idea blossomed into $50,000 in sales for hurricane relief! Next, Talia decided to take the $2000 gift money and put it back into another business. This time it went to bottled water businesses ran by children. This investment helped sell over 40,000 bottles of water and also purchased a new well for a village in South Africa for clean drinking water. On another inspiring note, RandomKid recently learned Talia is receiving what is called the "Nobel Prize for Children" from WorldOfChildren.org. This is a privilege that she shares with many other incredible kids around the world and she is thankful for even being considered for this award. I encourage you to find out more of RandomKid and feel free to tell everyone you know about Talia's mission to inspire children everywhere that they truly are powerful and can make a difference. It only takes one person to make changes in the world, even if that person is a child. As Corrie ten Boom once said, "The measure of a life, after all is not its duration, but its donation.
