Spend Your Vacation at a Chicago Bed and Breakfast PDF Print E-mail

It's the Windy City, the Second City, Frank Sinatra's kind of town. It's Chicago, and there's something in this city by the lake to please every traveler. Take a ball game, enjoy a boat trip on Lake Michigan, shop at some of the country's top boutiques, tour museums, eat at some of the nation's best restaurants and enjoy it all from a Chicago bed and breakfast. Here are some of the great, unique lodging choices.

Located in Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood, The House of Two Urns is located in a historic 1912 brownstone. The six guest rooms of this Chicago bed and breakfast are furnished with antiques, some are from the innkeeper's own family. Robes and slippers are just a few of the many thoughtful amenities, which also include satellite TVs and DVD players, high-speed internet access, and even a selection for toys for guests with children. A hearty, gourmet breakfast is served with such entrees as apricot crepes, feta and spinach quiche or perhaps blueberry pancakes with blueberry honey butter. The innkeeper also has several local apartments available, all with kitchens.

China Doll Guest House is located is picturesque ivy-covered building that dates back to 1895. The guest house is actually divided into three self-contained apartments. The garden apartment is especially pleasing with its exposed brick walls and fireplace. While the innkeepers don't prepare a formal breakfast, the guest kitchens are fully stocked with everything you might need to prepare either a light breakfast of toast or cereal or a traditional meal of eggs and bacon. The innkeepers offer several other lodgings, one of which is located on their 29-foot sailboat, the Chi Lin.

The Hansen House Mansion, also located in the Lincoln Park neighborhood is another option for travelers seeking a Chicago bed and breakfast. The 19th-century Queen Anne still features original stained-glass windows. The rooms are decorated in Victorian style with plenty of period antiques. There are two guest rooms, each with private bath and one with a clawfoot soaking tub. The spacious Parlor Suite is another option, housing up to four guests. This suite also has a clawfoot tub, as well as a spacious parlor and even a sun deck.

For more than 70 years, The Homestead has been a family-run inn, greeting guests to the Chicago area. The historic inn is located in the nearby suburb of Evanston, on the North Shore of Lake Michigan and home to Northwestern University. The innkeepers offer both traditional rooms, as well as apartments for those who need to book a longer stay. Quince, the inn's restaurant, serves up an eclectic menu with everything from char-grilled sweetbreads to osso buco to a mouth-watering array of desserts.

The Mansion Bed and Breakfast is located about 35 miles from Chicago in the suburb of West Dundee, providing comfortable accommodations slightly away from the bustle of the big city. The four guest rooms include a whirlpool tub, and one room as a fireplace. There are also three rooms billed as extended-stay accommodations. There are several restaurants within walking distance. Historic downtown Dundee is a charming area with plenty of architectural gems, many dating back prior to the Civil War.
